All Lined Up

Today’s photo comes from a very wet Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom.

I’m not always in the parks on days like this. Being a local, you tend to look out the window and judge whether or not it’s a good day to visit. But, since I write Dateline Disney World for MiceChat, there are times where I have to go to get content, regardless of how perfect (or not perfect) the weather may be for photography. The cool thing about that is that I get fun and unique opportunities like this. My fiancee and I were running across Main Street to get to Starbucks (our new favorite place in MK), and I saw this shot and had to stop, even though it was raining pretty hard. Main Street was virtually empty, it was lit decently, and the people waiting for the 3PM parade (which was eventually cancelled due to rain) created a perfect set of leading lines to Cinderella Castle. So, I got a little bit wet, but it was worth it in the long run.

Processing a photo like this can be a little challenging, since the skies tend to blow out on overcast days like this. Thankfully the highlight recovery slider in Lightroom has a degree from Hogwarts and magically makes detail that wasn’t there appear out of nowhere. I also opted to cool the white balance a tad on this image to give it a more old school, 1970′s WDW look.

This was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, both of which are available at Amazon. Thanks for looking!

I commented on this picture on your facebook post. It is an amazing picture! I discovered your blog this week and am loving it.

I recently purchased my first “good” camera (a Canon Rebel T4i. I’ve really enjoyed your break downs of how you took your pictures and have watched a few of your lightroom tutorials. It is all very helpful to this newb. Add to that, that I am 68 days from my next WDW vacation and I am sooo hooked to your site : )

I didn’t want to just lurk…thanks for sharing your photos and wisdom!

Great capture and brave of you to stand in the middle of Main Street with your gear!

I know you like vignetting when post processing your pictures. Do you ever tweak the other sliders (midpoint, roundness, feather, etc) or is it just a quick slide to the left each time?

    Thx!!

A degree from Hogwarts…hehe. You’ve got to love what Lightroom can do nowadays.
