Cars Land Blue Hour
Today’s photo comes from Cars Land out at Disney California Adventure.
Cars Land is, in a word, massive. The fact that they were able to build a mountain range this size in Anaheim, California is just mind blowing. It is one of those rare instances where pictures really cannot do the place justice. I shot this photo with an ultra wide angle lens, and I didn’t have anywhere near enough width to get the whole thing in frame. It is very convincing, and probably one of the best jobs Imagineering has done in a very, very long time.
For the shot, it was a beautiful blue hour as I was hanging out with some of the Disneyland local photography folks. We set up here over near the stroller parking for Radiator Springs Racers, and I included the foliage in the bottom of the frame to help hide the queue area somewhat. I also noticed that the dynamic range of this scene is quite wide, so I set up the tripod and did a bracket of frames. Normally, I do three photos in a bracket. But, just for fun, I decided to do a seven shot bracket here. I didn’t know if it would help me in the long run, but after editing the photo, I think it did. It was a little bit easier to keep the oranges and reds under control where the bright spotlights hit the mountain range.
This photo was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens, both of which are available at Amazon. As always, if you shop at Amazon, please click the links here in the post, as whatever you buy afterwards will help support the site! Thanks for reading!
