First Guests at Sunrise

Today’s photo is another from the 24 hour day at the Magic Kingdom!

This was the first photo I took that beautiful morning. I remember standing at the entrance to the park getting very anxious, and then feeling great joy when I snagged this first capture. I believe this one was from 6:02AM. I was pretty lucky that I got down Main Street really fast to get this capture with no people in it. After capturing it, I took 30 seconds to soak in the beauty of the park at that hour. So peaceful, so calm. It really was magnificent.

I planned on this shot being a 5 shot bracket, but after returning home, I noticed that in the +2 exposure, which was the 5th one, a person came into the frame and stood right in front of Partners. That created an ugly ghosting effect in the frame, so I blended only 4 images of -2, -1, 0, and +1 together. Thankfully by using the Merge to 32bit HDR Lightroom plugin by Photomatix, I didn’t have to sacrifice any real dynamic range. That method of processing really is remarkable for this type of shooting.

This shot was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens, both of which are available at Amazon. Awesome shot! I really like the look you got from that plugin. I guess I’ll have to give it a shot…

Your processing makes maximum use of the heavenly lighting seen during that time of the day. Very nicely done… This is another spectacular shot Cory! You must have been so excited after the shoot knowing what you managed to capture with your camera that morning. Thanks for sharing these wonderful shots and your thoughts about them.
