Grizzly River Run

Today’s photo comes from Disney California Adventure.

One of the things I always hear from my California based friends is that Southern California normally always has terrible skies for nighttime photography. I guess I must be really lucky, as I’ve had 5 nights of nighttime shooting at the Disneyland Resort where I’ve had some amazing deep blue skies. When I visited this past February, I did not see one cloud while there, but the blue in the sky more than made up for it.

With this shot, Grizzly River Run was actually under refurbishment. That meant the water wheel wasn’t in motion, and there is no water on the lift hill, either. But, I think that makes for a certain level of peacefulness and tranquility. Between Paradise Pier, Cars Land, and Buena Vista Street, there are lots of bright lights in DCA, and this area is a nice contrast to that. That said, I kind of botched the composition with this shot. I had originally shot it wider, but I did a terrible job leveling the shot in camera. That meant I had to do some serious rotation to make sure it was straight. By doing that, I ended up with a composition that is a little bit too close to the top of the frame, in my opinion. We live and we learn.

This shot was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens, both of which are available at Amazon. If you shop at Amazon, please click the links here in the article, that way anything you buy afterwards will help support the site. Thanks for reading!
