Illuminations over Japan

For today’s photo, we’re taking a look at Illuminations as seen from the Japan pavilion in World Showcase.

This shot was one that I had never really considered before, as the more commonly photographed location in this pavilion is from the second floor near Tokyo Dining. But, a group of us were hanging out over the weekend and shooting the Torii Gate, and we just decided we would give this a whirl and see how it went. It went pretty well! One thing about Illuminations that makes it difficult to shoot is that since it sits in the middle of a lagoon, it really lacks a central focal point, or something to use compositionally for perspective. That is where the Torii Gate comes into play. It makes for something to anchor the composition on, and then the fireworks become a great icing on the cake. This is definitely a location I plan on giving another shot to and seeing if I can do better.

This shot was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens, shot off of a tripod at f/13 (I believe) with a 2 stop Neutral Density filter attached. Thanks for reading!!

Amazing work! This is a location I have been planning on trying the next time I visit. Now that I see the results from your shot, I know for a fact I will be shooting here next time.
