Photo Recap of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share a photo recap of the Inaugural Tower of Terror 10 Miler that took place recently at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  This was my first RunDisney event and, like everything I do at Walt Disney World, I really wanted to photograph the events before and after the race.  I knew I shouldn’t run with a camera (those who know me know what a disaster that would be) so I had decided to stash my point and shoot in my checked bag.  Luckily, however, just prior to the race, a friend who would be watching the race offered to hold my camera while I ran (thanks, Carrie!).  I kept it simple- my camera, a 50mm lens and an external flash- and was able to capture a handful of photos to tell the story of the race.  (The external flash was used for photographs of people but was not used in any of the photos pictured below).  On an individual basis, these photos aren’t spectacular and they probably aren’t photos I would consider posting to Flickr but I think it’s important to remember that with a little forethought and attention to details, a group of casually taken photos can be a very effective way to tell a story and capture fun vacation memories!

The race packet pick up and Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo were held at The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo featured official RunDisney merchandise as well as many other vendors selling running gear.

Maps of the race course were displayed and a large clock counted down the time until the start of the race. It was a night race; the starting time was 10 pm!

Runners and spectators were bused to the Disney’s Hollywood Studios parking lot from host resorts and from the WWoS complex.

Runners could check their bag to pick up after the race.

Very fitting for a race themed to The Tower of Terror- there was a full moon that night!

The DHS parking lot was filled with entertainment and food trucks to help pass the time while we waited for the race to start.

Blue Hour was epic that night- I’m glad I had a camera with me to capture the moment.

The spooky starting line (taken with my iPhone).

In true Disney style, the start of the race is signaled with fireworks! (taken with my iPhone)

Racers with their medals after the race. The race was hot and humid but a lot of fun!

The race post-party lasted until 4am! Many of the rides and restaurants were open and a DJ led a Dance Party at the end of Hollywood Boulevard.

Nice photo essay. Photos don’t need to be award winning one to tell a story however, these are all very good.

Congrats on running and finishing in the very tough weather conditions. Never been to Florida with such hot and humid weather so late at night and in the year.
