Prime Lens Day!!

By Cory Disbrow on October 26th, 2010   |    Posted in:  News   |    7 Comments

Hello readers! For today’s post, I want to talk a little about one of our upcoming Disney Photography Blog events. It’s taking place on Thursday, December 9th, starting at 9:30AM at EPCOT Center, moving over to the Magic Kingdom part way through the day, then concluding at 3PM. The event is called Prime Lens Day, and we’re super excited about it. For this event, we’re encouraging everyone who has a prime lens to come to the park with that lens only, and to shoot with it all day long. The idea behind the event is to learn more about composition through the idea of not having a zoom to use as a crutch. If you don’t carry a prime, you’re absolutely invited to join, but if you do have a prime, we think you can really learn a lot from using just that lens. I know I have in the past, as all the shots in this post were taken on a Prime Lens Day I had on a previous trip! And it should be a well attended event, which means you’ll have lots of photographer friends that you can also learn from while shooting two of the best theme parks around.

And not only are we going to have a sweet time shooting and having fun, but we’ve also decided to up the ante a little bit. While talking with Tom Bricker and Henry Work from TouringPlans, we had an idea. TouringPlans is going to unofficially (oh, so appropriate!) sponsor this event! And what we’re going to do is have a little contest. Come to Prime Lens Day. Take lots and lots of photos and have a blast! Then, once you get home, we’ll have a way for you to send your best photo to Tom and Henry, who will then pick a winner. And the winner will receive some sort of prize from the TouringPlans guys! It might be a year long premium subscription to TouringPlans.com. It might be a copy of the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. We’re not sure yet what the prize will be, but we’ll let you know!

We think that adding this contest adds even a little more spice to what looks to be an already very exciting and interesting day!! We really hope you can come. If you can, sign up here on Plancast! See ya real soon!

The most ultimate prize, honestly, would be one of those singing McDonald’s Filet o Fish things. However, I’m not sure that acquiring one will be feasible.

Can’t wait to see all of the entries!

I would love, love LOVE to organize something similar during my next trip mid February, Cory! Any chance of something happening say, around February 11-18??? *wink wink*
Actually, what I would REALLY love is a nighttime shoot since it gets so dark so early in February… but that’s just my personal little wish.
Anyone else wanna join me for some night shooting in February? :)

I so wish I could come to this! Do you guys think you will do it again next year around the same time? I would love to be able to come meet all my photography heros and learn from you all.

Just checked the calendar for park hours that week and apparently Thursday is EMH @ Magic Kingdom. Would this be worth flip flopping and starting at MK?
