The Dark (B&W) Side
Today’s photo comes to us from right outside Star Tours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
When shooting Disney theme parks like I do all the time, it always gets to a point where you need to find new things to photograph. That’s not to say that I don’t love shooting landscapes including Cinderella Castle or Spaceship Earth, just that in order to keep things fresh and to continually challenge myself, it’s great to do new things. Yesterday when I was at Hollywood Studios, I shot the Jedi Training Academy show. It was a fun experience for me, and it was definitely challenging. Trying to get the right angles, correct apertures, and capture the moment just at the right time is not easy. With shooting stationary objects, you normally get multiple chances to capture what you want, but when you include people and/or moving subjects, you sometimes might only get one chance, one moment.
I went with a black and white conversion on this image just because I thought it would look cool. There was nothing wrong with the color image, I just thought the B&W would help with the villainous feel of Darth Vader.
This shot was taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IIIÂ and the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSMÂ lens, both of which can be purchased at Amazon. If you guys shop at Amazon, we’d love it if you clicked these links here in the article, since anything you purchase afterwards will help out the site. Thanks for looking!!
