Updated Schedule for December WDW Photography Trip

By Adam Hansen on October 8th, 2010   |    Posted in:  News   |    18 Comments

We hope many of you will be able to join us the week of December 5th – December 9th at Walt Disney World.  We know it was a last minute event and promise that in 2011 we will have something planned well in advance with much more scheduled.

We have setup individual meets for each day and have created a page on Plancast for people to “signup” for each days events.  If you will be at WDW during this time we would love for you to join us – there should be a large group of photographers each day roaming the parks and I am sure we will all learn from each other.  Doesn’t matter if you shoot with a pro level dslr or a simple Point and Shoot, everybody is welcome!

More details may be coming soon.

Sunday December 5th — Studios EMH/Osborne Lights Shooting!!

Meet us at 6:30 over at Dinosaur Gertie on Echo Lake for the start of our week long festivities! From there, we’ll do some shooting of the park, especially the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. We’ll also take advantage of low (hopefully!!) crowds to ride some of our favorite attractions!!

Monday December 6th — Candlelight Processional/Illuminations Meet!!

Join us for some exciting holiday action at EPCOT Center! We’ll meet at 4PM at the tables outside the Liberty Inn at the American Adventure pavilion, then head over to the famous Candlelight Processional! After that, we’ll do some wandering and shooting, which will be very casual. Then we will officially meet again at 9PM on the bridge that connects the UK and France pavilions to shoot Illuminations: Reflections of Earth with the special Peace on Earth tag attached!! Bring your tripods and ND filters!!!

Tuesday December 7th — Animal Kingdom 2 Week Photo Safari!

Join us for a two week photo adventure on the African savannah! Ok, it will be just a few hours of shooting Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but promises to be just as fun! We’ll meet at the large Christmas tree outside the main gate to DAK. From there, we will wander the park shooting the amazing details, riding the attractions, and probably get a little Flame Tree Barbecue as well :)

Wednesday December 8th — Hollywood, here we come!!

Join us for a day filled with fun and photography at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! The event will start at Dinosaur Gertie’s over on Echo Lake. We decided to have the event start at 10AM so that everyone could go get a Fastpass for Toy Story Midway Mania right when they arrive before meeting up. From there, we will walk and shoot the Hollywood that never was, but always will be. We’ll also enjoy all our favorite attractions!

Thursday December 9th — EPCOT/MK Prime Lens Day!!

This is going to be one of the more special days photography wise on this trip. We all aspire to become better photographers, so on this day, we’re going to meet and keep one fixed focal length prime lens on our cameras all day! This will cause us to really think about composition and push us to get better!! We’ll meet at the Camera Center underneath Spaceship Earth at 9:30, giving everyone time to get a Fastpass for Soarin’ before the meet starts. We’ll go from there, hitting both Future World and World Showcase until noon.

At that time, we will take a group ride on the famous Walt Disney World Monorail over to the Magic Kingdom, with prime lenses still attached! We’ll then shoot the place where it all began from 1PM until 3PM, at which point we will close out our first ever Disney Photography Blog event, hopefully with tons of great memories!!

No more plans for MVMCP on 12/9? I’m not arriving until about 1 pm on the 9th. Oh well, better luck next time- hope you all have fun!

    • Cory Disbrow   |   Oct 8, 2010

Katie, we’re still doing the Christmas Party on the 9th, but we didn’t want to make it an “official” event due to the extra cost and what not. Please join us!!

      • Katie Marino   |   Oct 8, 2010

        Great! I’m excited!

  2. Tom Bricker   |   Oct 8, 2010

The plan is for the earliest showing of CP on the 6th, right?

When we went prior to Christmas (I think we went to CP on like Dec 1), the “standby” line for it was insane. I heard people camp out like 2+ hours in advance. I’m hoping it doesn’t REQUIRE camping out that far in advance, but rather, crazy people just choose to camp out that far in advance.

    • Cory Disbrow   |   Oct 8, 2010

Yes Tom, the plan is for the 5PM CP on the 6th, which I believe to be the earliest one.

    • Adam Hansen   |   Oct 8, 2010

I had luck last year doing the standby for the 5pm show. I got in a line about one hour before the show and easily got a seat – many after also got in. Hoping for the same this year.

One thing though is I highly doubt we will be sitting together depending on the amount of people in the group. Plus a lesser known narrator will help keep crowds away, but they have not announced who it will be yet.

      • Tom Bricker   |   Oct 12, 2010

That’s good to know. It always seems people get in line way earlier than is really necessary for things of this nature, and then report back that you MUST get in line as early as they did (to save face? I dunno) or else you won’t get a spot.

  3. Brian Hubbard   |   Oct 8, 2010

I can’t wait to see everyone’s photos. The Prime Lens Day is a fantastic idea, too!

  4. Colleen Gaudette   |   Oct 8, 2010

I am so bummed I won’t be able to make it. That is usually the week we go, but this year decided to go a month early. Do you think you will do the same time of year next year? I would love to come!

    • Adam Hansen   |   Oct 9, 2010

Colleen, Sorry you won’t be able to make it. We definitely have plans for next year but don’t know for sure when. One thing for sure is we will announce it well in advance and have more time for planning.

  5. AndreeaRadu   |   Oct 10, 2010

I think I’ll be able to make it for all the scheduled days. I am so excited to do this, usually it’s just me and it gets boring!

    • Adam Hansen   |   Oct 10, 2010

Awesome, looking forward to meeting you in December Andreea. Promise it will not get boring :)

  6. Maria Seda   |   Oct 11, 2010

How do these meets work? Do you give suggestions on camera setting and we all shoot our photos. Is it like a class? I believe my schedule sort of works. I have 5:45 Via Napoli reservations but would really be interested in the Illuminations portion.

    • Adam Hansen   |   Oct 11, 2010

This is the first time we have done one of these so there is no set plan at this point in time. The general idea is for us all to get together and shoot as a group, by doing that we will all be learning from each other. None of us on this site are professional Disney photographers – we are all there to learn more. If you have been on other photowalks outside of Disney then you will have something to compare it too.

Sure there will be times when somebody may have tips or suggestions, though it is not a class of any sort. The main focus is to just hang out as a group of photo fans and have fun! I personally am looking forward to shooting Illuminations as a group to see exactly how some of these people get the amazing fireworks shots they do.

      • Cory Disbrow   |   Oct 11, 2010

Yeah, what Adam said is basically on the money. I’ve done two of these in WDW before, and it’s basically like a big hangout. We all get together, talk about Disney and Photography, shoot the parks, and have a great time. I’ve made some really great friends through meets like this, and have also learned a lot about photography and made myself better! Hope you can make it! Sign up on Plancast if you can!

  7. Alan   |   Oct 12, 2010

I’m hoping to make it for at least the 7th – 9th, but will have to see things are at work. If you ever need help putting together one of these meet-ups in the future though hit me up, there is a leisure travel department where I work and we have a Disney Rep that might be able to help swing things for the event. Just a thought.

  8. AndreeaRadu   |   Oct 20, 2010

I can’t wait to have you guys there right next to me! I am hoping that I’ll finally get to see how you get all those amazing firework pictures that I dream of for myself and never seem to get right :)

  9. Katie   |   Oct 22, 2010

Hmmm…I’ll be in “the World” that week but it is a family trip. Gotta think about this – maybe I could sneak away for one day or a part of a day.
