Photographing Cast Members at Disney

By Adam Hansen on July 11th, 2012   |    Posted in:  Disney Photo Spotlight   |    5 Comments

One thing I try to do at Disney now (and elsewhere when shooting), is to capture more people in my shots. I have always been a big fan of Scott Smith’s Human Element Photos and they have inspired me on recent trips. Photographing the cast members at Disney can result in some fun photos, they all seem to enjoy posing and having their photo taken. What I enjoy though is trying to capture them while they are in the moment of doing their job. When you are able to capture people without them knowing they are being photographed, you can end up with some great photos.

Today I am showcasing a series of cast member photos taken on a recent trip. Next time you are out with your camera (at Disney or elsewhere), try to photograph the people around you. It can take some getting use to, but you will quickly realize that it is a new way to enjoy photography and will probably end up with some fun shots.

Update:

We were discussing the cast member Barbara who is shown in one of the photos above. She is known for dancing on Main Street before and during the parades. I came across this video of Barbara that I thought readers might enjoy.

The lady that works in Town Square before and after the afternoon parade that you photographed is fantastic. She puts SO much effort into her job, great Cast Member.

Yeah, I have other photos of her and I believe her name is Barbara. She starts when the park opens and usually drives the Family of the Day down Main Street in the fire truck. She is so much fun to watch before the parade though as she dances down Main Street!

She is in a Youtube video dancing around during the parade. Unique style.

    Love those photos!!!!

And I saw that lady for the 1st time a few weeks ago. I can’t recall ever seeing a CM put that much effort and energy into entertaining the crowd.

Love this post. I often find myself doing just this when I am taking photos at WDW. Especially my last trip when I was flying solo for most of the days while my husband was at a convention. I especially love taking photos of the photopass folks doing their job. There is something funny about it to me..taking photos of the photographers.
